EXAMPLE PROJECT: The Ghana Project - A Case Study

The Ministry of Education, Accra, contracted Findel Education-Philip Harris International Projects Division to equip 110 Science Resource Centres across Ghana.

The Problem:
  • A lack of practical Science teaching in Secondary Schools
  • A diminishing base of high quality Science teachers and resources
  • A strong desire to introduce IT into the Science Curriculum
  • A lack of immediate capital funds to address the problem in the short term
The Solution: notable project outcomes
  • Curriculum development & production of illustrated Science Teaching Manual for Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Computer Studies.
  • Installation & Commissioning - Engineers remain active in country for duration of the contract
  • The provision of high quality science materials necessary to deliver the new syllabus
  • Over 600 teachers and technicians trained during the 3 year period
Project Finance
The £19.75 million cost of the project was financed over a 10 year period at an attractive rate of interest.
